About Tenterden Tigers Junior F.C.

A Growing And Well Organised Club

The club is run by a large group of local volunteers for the benefit of youngsters of school age within Tenterden and the surrounding villages.
After being formed only seven years ago, the club expanded rapidly to its current membership of some 300 + youngsters.
The 'core' team of volunteers give up anything upwards of 4 hours per week of their time for much of the year, whilst a smaller number of club personnel are currently devoting closer to 20 hours of their time each and every week to the strategic development of the club.

To give an indication of the robust nature of this organisation, it should be noted that:

  • the club adopted a formal constitution from an early stage and keeps audited financial accounts.
  • the Executive Committee has the mandate for addressing day-to-day club issues, but...
  • twenty elected 'voting members' have ultimate decision-making control of the organisation.
  • club meetings occur on a six week cycle and are commonly attended by most 'voting members'.
  • like any successful organisation, the club has a clear operational structure.
  • the club is affiliated to the Kent County Football Association.
An Impressive Range Of Community Activities

Competitive Football Matches: we are fielding no less than 17 competitive junior teams for the current season, catering for children (both boys and girls) upwards of five years old.
The club enjoys a high profile within Tenterden and the surrounding area, not only because of its obvious 'presence' in terms of playing junior football matches, but also because the Kentish Express provides regular editorial coverage of matches throughout the season.
Whilst organising competitive junior football matches is thus the most visible aspect of our activities, in reality this represents just one way in which we are involved in the community. The club is also responsible for a range of less widely recognised activities, including...
  • Weekend Training: younger club members who are not involved in competitive matches receive regular training from qualified personnel on the Appledore Road playing fields each Saturday morning.
  • Mid-Week Training: we run after-school training at Tenterden Junior School on three days of the week for younger players. This provision is sited at Homewood School sports hall for older players and takes place in the early evenings.
  • Football Tournaments: we will be organising two major tournaments at the end of this season, involving clubs from throughout Kent and East Sussex. The first event will take place at the Ashford Mini Soccer Centre, the second is to be situated at the playing fields in Biddenden.
  • Social Activities: for the youngsters, we arrange regular coach trips to watch football league matches, whilst our annual 'presentation evening' is one of the rare occasions when the entire club congregates in one place. For parents, we organise a small number of social events during the course of the year, which are invariably attended in large numbers by the enthusiastic and highly supportive families of TTJFC players.
  • Fund Raising: we have a small but dedicated fund raising sub-committee within the club, which has developed action plans for a number of differing sources of financial support. Hence we have volunteers who look specifically at the following areas of potential support: personal donations to the club (including a 'vice presidents' scheme'); sponsorship from the local business community; contributions from regional/national corporate entities; grant aid from all available sources.
The fund raising group has made a welcome and necessary contribution to the financial health of the club over the past 18 months and we fully expect their efforts to show even more impressive results as time passes.
